Protesting health workers who have deployed roadblocks for the last four weeks, blocking traffic to the giant Vaca Muerta shale basin in Neuquén Province, said on Wednesday that they moved their protests to other parts of Patagonia.

Protesting health workers who have deployed roadblocks for the last four weeks, blocking traffic to the giant Vaca Muerta shale basin in Neuquén Province, said on Wednesday that they moved their protests to other parts of Patagonia.

The roadblocks had blocked oil and natural gas production at Vaca Muerta and left some local regions without energy. Healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses and other hospital staff are seeking improved wages for working high-risk jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic. Pay levels are currently poor.

They have rejected offers of increased compensation, calling them insufficient, though some unionised workers have agreed deals. However, non-unionised groups agreed to move their blockades away to other parts of the province, away from Vaca Muerta.

"We are going to move to different parts of the province. We will continue evaluating what other measures to take to ensure that the government understands our concerns, considering that we are getting hit by a second wave," said Marco Campos, a spokesman for the healthcare workers, in comments reported by various outlets.
