Ecuador's Energy Minister Ivan Rodriguez said
in a television interview
Monday, they are ready to sign the refining deal proposed by Venezuelan
President Hugo Chavez in May, despite the delay and changes that postponed
the agreement last week.
"We
hope that everything will be resolved by Tuesday or Wednesday,"Rodriguez
said
Venezuelan
delegates are expected to arrive in Quito this week to finalize
details of swap, Rodriguez said.
Rodriguez
said that Ecuador and Venezuela have delayed signing the agreement due
to Venezuela changing the original offer of up to 75,000 b/d of Ecuador's
19-API Napo crude for 45,000 b/d of refined products with Venezuela.
Venezuela's
oil company PDVSA is now proposing several alternatives to Ecuador'
oil company which Petroecuador continues to analyze.
Due
to the signing delay, Petroecuador has called for spot sale offers due
Thursday on five shipments of 400,000 barrels each of Napo crude during
July.
"This auction is just in case we do not complete the deal with
Venezuela," Rodriguez
said.
The
head of Petroecuador Fernando Gonzalez, resigned last week due to lack
of support from the government top officials on the deal with venezuela,
according to sources. The official reason for Gonzalez leaving the ministry
is that he resigned for personal reasons.
