Impeachment?

We shall allow the picture this page to speak loudly regarding the impeachment
process taking place in Washington D.C. This picture speaks volumes .

Here in the States, we said yesterday that “All eyes and ears will be turned to Washington as the Impeachment process ‘goes public.'” We were wrong; few if any of the people we spoke with while travelling to Houston had any interest in the proceedings. Further, as we noted here yesterday, in the recent NFIB Optimism Index, impeachment was far down the list of concerns on the part of small businessmen and women, trailing far behind the difficulties of finding well trained employees, or tariffs or trade protection. Nothing yesterday was new news for all of the 6 witnesses called had been vetted previously. Further, even though the Democrat Party's “prosecution” team made public its most damning evidence it fell flat as we watched CNN's coverage while flying. Finally, the President's “Defense” will be awarded very little time to make its case with that defense to be made before the Senate when the official impeachment trial begins several weeks from now.

Acting US Ambassador to Ukraine, Bill Taylor; Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, George Kent and former US Ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, had already appeared at closed-door committee hearings, and transcripts of their depositions have been released to the public… and before that had been leaked to the press… so there were no surprises from Mr. Taylor and Mr. Kent. Mr. Schiff has to be embarrassed.

Again, we are of the mind that the impeachment is proper; we believe that the House has a very real obligation to make its case and shall do so, but in the end the President's actions regarding Ukraine fall well below the level of consequence necessary for his removal from office. In the end, the wisdom of the Founding Fathers in allowing the Legislative branch of government to over-see the Executive branch while requiring a 2/3rd majority in the Senate to remove a President. Mr. Trump's actions in Ukraine were wholly ill-advised and may have perhaps been illegal. Certainly they were stupid for these sorts of things are “handled” by 3rd and 4th level, back-channel operatives within the Foreign Service, not by Presidents. But as we said, were his actions worthy of his being removed from office? No… not at all… It is not even close and nor shall it be.
