Scott Sullivan:
Biden must attack Clinton

Barack Obama has made an outstanding choice of Senator Joe Biden as his running mate in 2008.

Senator Biden is a talented demagogue who speaks to blue-collar workers and the Middle Class.  He can explain in everyday language the new threats facing the US as a result of Bush's blunders in foreign policy, especially Bush's decision to go to war in Iraq.

Above all, Biden should attack Clinton, Bush and McCain for confronting Russia. In fact, Senator Biden should accuse Bush and McCain for creating a crisis with Russia for political reasons.

Clinton, Bush and McCain are emulating the Nazi party's tactics in 1930's Germany. Hitler intended to create a “war scare” of confrontation between Germany and the Soviet Union. As part of this "war scare” campaign, Germany's Nazis burned down the Reichstag and then blamed this crime on the German communists. A civil war between the German Nazis and Communists was soon underway.

Hitler used Germany's civil war as a pretext for suspending Germany's democratic form of government. Once these democratic restraints were removed, Hitler was able to become Germany's dictator and lead Germany into war against the Soviet Union.

In exactly the same way today, Clinton, McCain and Bush are provoking a “war scare” with Russia. Clinton, McCain and Bush are using this confrontation with Russia to boost McCain's political appeal. Moreover, Clinton, McCain and Bush are using the war scare as a issue that diverts attention from their own Neoconservative campaign to build the US-Iran Axis in the Middle East and Latin America.

In short, Senator Biden should attack McCain and Clinton for starting the war in Iraq, which is far from over; for provoking needless confrontation with Russia over Georgia, as noted above; for provoking confrontation with China on the issue of Tibet; and, finally, for ignoring the threat to Latin America from Nazi Iran and its fascist (Hugo Chavez) and Trotskyite allies (Evo Morales, Raul Castro, and Daniel Ortega.)

As a result of the Clinton/McCain/Bush policy of US-Russia confrontation, NATO is in a shambles, Latin America is going down the drain, and Russia is using its considerable leverage in the international community to further isolate and weaken the US.

In contrast, Senator Biden should take an upbeat view of the prospects for US cooperation with Russia and China. Here is how Biden's program would work.

First, on Iraq policy, Biden should tell Russia and China that he was wrong last year to advocate dividing Iraq into three separate states. Such a policy would provoke large scale instability in Iraq and throughout the region. Instead, Biden should call upon Russia and China to protect Iraq's borders.   Biden should encourage Russian support for the al-Maliki govenment by mobilizing Sunni support and by restraining the Kurds, who were under Russian control during the Saddam era

Second, on Iran policy, Biden should thank Russia and China for their efforts to isolate Iran in Central Asia and the Caucasus. Biden should warn that Iran is attempting to “fish in troubled waters” in the Cacasus by taking advantage of the crisis in Georgia. President Bush may even be helping Iran in this regard.

Third, Biden should ask Russia and China for their help in stabilizing Latin America. Biden should ask Russia to postpone decisions on selling advanced Russian weapons to Venezuela, basing nuclear capable Russian bombers in Cuba, or increasing the Russian naval presence in the Caribbean, pending completion of a joint US-Russia-China study on Latin America's security requirements.
